DRIVING IN INCLEMENT CONDITIONS

If the weather is inclement, try to travel at or below the speed limit depending on the conditions. If the roads are very wet and you are traveling at a high rate of speed your car may hydroplane and you could lose control. Hydroplaning occurs when standing water on the surface of the road is deeper than the tread of your tires, therefore, causing the tires to lose contact with the road. If this happens, ease back on the accelerator until contact is restored.

Icy roads are often times more dangerous than major snowstorms. This is due to the lack of traction that your tires have on ice. Make sure the tread on your tires is up to par and don't put off getting new tires if you need them.

The bottom line is, if you don't have to go out, don't. Especially if the local authorities say to stay off the roads, it's better to be safe than sorry.
